WHAT IS TRAUMA?
A trauma is defined as an event in which a person's internal and external resources are inadequate to cope with the overwhelming experience.
Examples (not an exhaustive list):

Child abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, verbal, neglect)

Violence (domestic, assault, random acts)

Rape

Disease (cancer, HIV, heart disease, paralysis, diabetes)

Addiction

Loss of a loved one

Divorce or break-up in significant relationship

Natural Disaster (hurricane, earthquake, floods, fire, etc)

Terrorism

Financial loss/devastation (job loss, foreclosure, etc)

Accident (car, injury, fire, etc)

Physical mutation

Loss of physical and/or sensory abilities

Loss of limb(s)
There is no "official" trauma list. What qualifies an event as a trauma is your response to the experience.
